[BREAKING NEWS: May 2019 -Two huge developments this month. First, Monsanto suffered two more major defeats in Roundup cancer lawsuits. First in March after a federal jury in San Francisco found Edward Hardeman's non-Hodgkin Lymphoma (cancer) was likely the result of exposure to Roundup. The jury later awarded him $80 million. Now in May, another jury found Bayer Monsanto responsible for the cancer of a husband and wife in California. This time the jury awarded $2,055,000,000.00 - that over two billion dollars.
Of even higher importance, Bayer Monsanto appears to be trying to quietly settle the 13,400 cases pending against it. One more multi-billion verdict and the company likely can't survive. Since juries have begun hammering the company, Bayer (parent company to Monsanto) has lost $30 billion in market value. The company can't survive like this much longer.
A possible settlement in the works is good for cancer patients hoping to see some compensation during their lifetime. Our hero Lee Johnson probably won't survive if he must wait for the appeals process. While good news overall, it means that if you have not yet filed time may be running out. Since August of 2018, we have dedicated much of our energy to protecting the public from the dangers of glyphosate, the suspected deadly toxin found in Roundup and many other popular weed killers. We have also been leading the charge to find insiders willing to blow the whistle on Monsanto and stop their deadly reign of terror.

From time to time we publish the stories of some of the many cancer patients who are fighting for justice. Everyone has heard about Dewayne Johnson’s case even if they don’t remember his name. His was the first big glyphosate case to go to trial. [Spoiler alert: A California jury awarded him $289,000,000.00]

High Drama Over $289 Million Monsanto Roundup Verdict. After the verdict was announced, Monsanto said it would appeal. No surprise there. What was surprising was the reaction of the judge who suggested that she would toss the verdict without an appeal.
The decision of Judge Suzanne Bolanos to tentatively toss the verdict set off a fire storm of protest… by the jurors. Never have we have seen jurors go back to court weeks after their case ended. They did en masse and the judge listened.
Ultimately, the court reduced the award of punitive damages but didn’t throw out the award of actual damages and didn’t reverse the jury’s conclusion that glyphosate caused DeWayne deadly cancer. That means DeWayne is entitled to $78 million, if he lives long enough and survives the appeal process.

There are lots of other victims. Right now, an estimated 11,000 lawsuits have been filed. We can’t tell everyone of their stories but we do post a few every now and then. There are literally so many lawsuits now that we don’t want them to simply become another statistic or docket number. Each victim is a son or daughter, a mother or father or friend or co-worker. And their stories are waiting to be told.
Here are the random stories of some of the many thousands of cancer victims. The Faces and Names of Roundup Cancer Victims and Profiles of Monsanto Cancer Victims: Roundup Killed My Dog. The latter story is especially interesting because one of the victims in that case, Michele Stevens, didn’t use the popular weed killing product.
In our experience, most of the glyphosate cancer victims have been groundskeepers, farmers and gardeners who actively sprayed their fields, golf courses or gardens with glyphosate. Ms. Stevens, however, claims she is the victim of second hand exposure, much like second hand tobacco smoke can cause lung cancer.
Stevens says that Charlotte County, Florida public works crews were spraying a neighboring lake and fields with glyphosate. After suffering years of blurred vision and coughing, one of her heart valves failed. Her doctor claims bloodwork shows she was suffering from organophosphate poisoning. [Monsanto denies the allegations in the lawsuit and says Roundup is safe when used as directed.]

Moving beyond the victims, many of our posts look at the science behind glyphosate and its links with cancer in humans.
In Monsanto vs Scientific Community – The War of Words Continues we examine new evidence that glyphosate is making its way into the foods we eat. In fact, the Environmental Working Group says in this post that Quaker Oats oatmeal squares cereal contain more glyphosate than Vitamin A. Cheerios had more weed killer than Vitamin D or B12.

A very recent study shows that glyphosate is now frequently found in pregnant women. That is especially bad because experts believe that the potent herbicide can be dangerous to babies. There are studies that suggest glyphosate can harm a young child’s IQ and neurobehavioral development issues as well as contribute to attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD).
In Monsanto Roundup – Science Journal Expresses Concern we discuss how the prominent Critical Reviews in Toxicology scientific journal called out Monsanto and several scientists for not disclosing Monsanto’s hidden role in several supposedly independent research studies.
That theme repeats itself in a newer post - Glyphosate, Diesel Exhaust and Tobacco Smoke “Healthy”? - where we discuss the link between the supposedly independent American Council on Science and Health and Monsanto where one internal email extolls how the company can’t get “a better value for their dollar” than they can with the Council.
The Council and some of its directors have direct links to big tobacco, pharma and chemical companies.
One of the most disturbing claims is one discussed in On the Trail of Monsanto, Roundup and Cancer. Some say that Monsanto has been improperly influencing the EPA and outside scientific labs. An email between a deputy director at the Environmental Protection Agency and Monsanto reveals a senior FDA official discussing a planned government study of glyphosate. In the email he says, “If I can kill this, I should get a medal.”
We don’t know if he received his medal but the study by the Centers for Disease Control was never performed.
Speaking of government studies, not all countries allow glyphosate based products to be used. In Health Canada Questions Bayer Roundup we look at one of the newest countries to question the safety on Monsanto.

Moving beyond Roundup and glyphosate cancer claims, we also examine Monsanto and Bayer's history of foreign bribery. Under the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act, the SEC can pay whistleblower awards of between 10% and 30% of whatever they collect from wrongdoers.
Why is that relevant? Both Monsanto and its parent Bayer have already been accused of foreign bribery. In 2019, the company admitted to spying on European lawmakers. Are they trying to see who can be bribed? We would love to find out.
