TPC Port Neches Plant Explosion – What Are My Legal Options?

Hi, I am attorney Tim Granitz. In this short three minute video we discuss the recent explosion at the TPC Group chemical plant in Port Neches, Texas. The information presented on this video is useful for other petrochemical plant disasters as well.
The Port Neches explosion that occurred the day before Thanksgiving caused the evacuation of 50,000 people and damaged homes and businesses.
TPC Group, operator of the plant, has promised to cooperate with area residents and quickly pay claims. For broken windows, a couple nights hotel stay or a spoiled Thanksgiving dinner, their claims process probably works. If you are asked to sign a release, however, consult with a local lawyer first.
In this video we will quickly discuss the serious health and environmental effects and hidden structural damage associated with chemical plant explosions such as the one in Port Neches.
Health Effects of the TPC Explosion
Massive blasts cause a pressure wave that can cause brain injuries, damage hearing, cause tinnitus and harm internal organs. Thankfully, the first blast was at 1:00 am when most people were inside but a 2

blast Wednesday afternoon may have caused more injuries as many people were outside and possibly watching the fire.
The TPC plant manufactures several highly toxic and carcinogenic chemicals. Air monitoring detected high levels of Volatile Organic Compounds downwind but little else.
We worry about exposure to asbestos and MTBE, the latter being a liquid that is both toxic and hard to remove from soil. We don’t know yet how much MTBE, if any, escaped during the blasts or if asbestos was released into the community. We may be able to help you if MTBE is discovered on your land or in your water or if you later develop mesothelioma or lung cancer.
My Business Suffered Hidden Structural Damages from the Explosion, Now What?
The same blast wave that can damage your ear drums and brain can also damage a building’s footings and break seals. Shattered windows and pushed in doors are the obvious damage but hidden damage is often the most serious.
